Many teenagers ask the question, “What does it take to become a top class player?”
To help you, here’s a checklist a famous European club uses to identify “real players.”
- Are you dedicated to soccer?
- Will you accept the discipline and hard work that is demanded?
- Is your attitude right?
- Are you a competitive team player?
- Are you playing soccer on a regular basis?
- Can you kick and pass with both feet?
- Is your heading powerful and accurate?
- Are you practicing skills every day?
- Are you working to improve you fitness and flexibility?
- Is your speed off the mark second to none?
- Can you juggle for 5 minutes without the ball touching the ground, using feet and head only?
- Are you “student of the game?
Notice how much importance pro’s rate “work ethic” and positive attitude. Without these roots, skills and fitness will never bloom to their full potential. You can see it is a very demanding profession and only the dedicated ones make it to the top. In return, the rewards are many and there are very few people earn a living playing a game they love.
How do you rate yourself using this check-list? How many questions can you answer “yes” to? If you are giving yourself more “no’s” than “yes’s” and want to become a top class player, then there’s only one way to win more “yes’s” and that’s by getting out to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and PRACTICE…………….it never ends!!!
